How Gas Effects Coops and Condos In New York City

Due to accidents caused by gas leaks, natural gas piping has become highly regulated on a federal, state and city level.

Some of the laws that effect gas in New York City are as follows:

• Local Law 152 requires the exposed gas pipes within a coop or condo to be inspeected every 4 years. The year of inspection is determined by the Community Board in which the buiding is located.


• Local Law 157 requires Natural Gas Detectors by May 1, 2025.
